Trombone

The Trombone is a brass instrument with a medium-sized mouthpiece. It creates a sound when the lips vibrate (“buzz”) into the mouthpiece. Unlike other brass instruments, the trombone uses a SLIDE. To find the correct slide positions, students with good pitch-matching skills are well-suited.

Physical Characteristics

A slight overbite is acceptable, while an extreme underbite would hinder success. Trombone players should have slightly fuller-than-average lips.
