The Horn (also called “French Horn”) has one of the smallest mouthpieces in the brass family. It creates a sound when the lips vibrate (“buzz”) into the mouthpiece.
Physical Characteristics
A slight overbite is okay, but an underbite can severely hinder progress on Horn. Due to the unique way it is held, students must sit up straight and demonstrate proper playing position when asked. The Horn is the only brass instrument played with the LEFT hand.
Other Considerations
Students with good pitch-matching skills (singers) are typically well-suited for the Horn. Students with a history of academic or behavioral problems will not considered. Private lessons are encouraged. The Horn is a school-owned instrument.
