Flute

The Flute is the smallest of the beginner instruments. It creates sound when air vibrates against the edge of the tone hole.

Physical Characteristics

A “tear drop” shape in the middle of the upper lip will make flute playing difficult. Flute players must be able to focus an extremely small airstream to an exact location on the tone hole; a tear-drop shape in the upper lip will make it difficult to do so. Students with extreme overbites will also have difficulty producing quality sounds. Flute players should have agile fingers for fast musical passages.
